Winter Boots, Considered

When the temperature drops below zero and a winter storm rolls in, warm feet become non-negotiable. Cold toes? Not for me.

A few of these boots already live in my closet, one pair is currently en route, and a couple more will have to wait their turn. Not all of them are meant for trekking through deep snow — but let’s be honest. Sometimes you just need winter boots that keep you warm and look good.

The practical favorites

Sorel boots are a go-to for a reason. Many styles are waterproof (key), and depending on the pair, you’ll find insulation, shearling, or both. The best part? There’s truly a style for everyone — from fully functional to quietly stylish.

UGG Adirondack boots are my ski-trip standby. Waterproof, fully lined with sheepskin, and rated down to serious cold, they’re built for real winter conditions without feeling bulky.

When warmth meets style

Marc Fisher Izzie boots fall squarely into the why-did-I-wait category. I skipped them one year thinking I didn’t need them, then spent an entire winter with freezing ankles. That dilemma has been resolved.

A preppy classic

L.L.Bean boots are the definition of New England winter style. While the suede means they’re not fully waterproof without a protective spray, the shearling lining delivers on warmth. Practical, classic, and unmistakably timeless.

Winter dressing doesn’t have to be all function or all fashion — the sweet spot is somewhere in between. If you have favorites worth adding to the list, I’m always taking notes.
